CR’s Story

Pre-Overt: I am really needing help with confidence/self worth. Finding tools to be a better person towards myself and others would be helpful. I would love to have the ability to have authentic long lasting relationships and overall better mental health. Week 1: I left feeling extremely validated and with some very helpful new vocabulary…Continue reading CR’s Story

KR’s Story

Pre-Overt I am hoping to overcome my anxiety and depression and live a more fulfilled life. A life that I can live without being afraid of other peoples opinions about me and letting that stop me from doing things I would love to do. I am working with a therapist to overcome my past traumas…Continue reading KR’s Story

BG’s Story

Pre-Overt We recently moved to a new city and  I started having terribly gruesome nightmares that would wake me up and developed intrusive thoughts about the images I would dream about. I was deeply disturbed as violence and gore were not ever part of any media or books in my life. I sought after answers…Continue reading BG’s Story

LH’s Story

I lost 3 family members in 4 months; including my mother and my only son. I’ve added my disabled brother (whose wife passed away) and his young  son to my household. All of this occurred shortly after I moved to help my mom, before she passed away. During this time, I have still been in…Continue reading LH’s Story

Why do you have people share their stories?

At the Overt Foundation, we believe that being open with ourselves and others is part of the healing and self-fulfillment journey. By sharing our stories with others, we can grow stronger and also inspire others to be better as well.

Can I share my story anonymously?

Yes, when you share your story you can elect to only display your first name or initials so that you remain anonymous. We encourage people to share with their name, but you can do whatever makes you feel comfortable.

Who will read my story?

There are many people that come to our website and read the stories and articles that are posted. A lot of these people may be struggling with mental health as well and so these stories can be a source of inspiration for them

What should I write about?

You can describe your past experiences with mental health, what has helped you, the people that have helped you, where you are in your journey, and also where you hope to be in the future. Feel free to write about what makes your mental health journey unique.

What are the different share options?

We encourage everyone to share their personal story, but we also have options for people to share their specific coping mechanisms for mental health struggles, how to help a loved one or friend that is going through a difficult time, and also your personal experience with therapy.

Is there anything I shouldn’t include in my story?

We would encourage people not to include any details that are too graphic. We would also ask that you do not post any offense language. This includes racist or sexist remarks as well as curse words and other inappropriate language.

How long should my story be?

Your story can be as long as you would like it to be. If you want to write just one paragraph you can. If it ends up being 10 pages that is also okay!

Can I edit my story later?

Yes, you can edit your story later.
